FLOTILLA 33 GETS BRIEFING ON COAST GUARD AUXILIARY INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS AT THE MONTHLY MEETING ON 01FEB14
FLOTILLA 33 MEMBER BRIAN MCARDLE, DIRECTOR COAST GUARD AUXILIARY INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS DIRECTORATE, DURING THE PRESENTATION ON INTERNATIONAL COAST GUARD SUPPORT MISSIONS.
The International Directorate is divided into two distinct parts, International Outreach and the Interpreters Corps.
International Outreach has three main goals:
1) Enhance international awareness and appreciation of the value of
trained volunteer organizations that contribute to safety at sea
2) Assist and encourage the formation and strengthening of
volunteer maritime safety organizations, to include the development
of recreational boating safety programs and encourage the sharing of
information among volunteer maritime organizations.
3) Supporting the United States Coast Guard International Program.
The Interpreter Corps:
® Provides capable, qualified, and competent language interpretation to the U.S. Coast Guard, the U.S. Department of Defense, and to the Auxiliary. These language services provide the same high level of document and program translation capability required for international missions.
Nationally there are currently 452 Coast Guard Auxiliary Interpreters in 48 languages.
