The International Directorate is divided into two distinct parts, International Outreach and the Interpreters Corps.

International Outreach has three main goals:

1)  Enhance international awareness and appreciation of the value of trained volunteer organizations that contribute to safety at sea worldwide.

2)  Assist and encourage the formation and strengthening of volunteer maritime safety organizations, to include the development of recreational boating safety programs and encourage the sharing of information among volunteer maritime organizations.

3)  Supporting the United States Coast Guard International Program.

The Interpreter Corps:

® Provides capable, qualified, and competent language interpretation to the U.S. Coast Guard, the U.S. Department of Defense, and to the Auxiliary. These language services provide the same high level of document and program translation capability required for international missions.

Nationally there are currently 452 Coast Guard Auxiliary Interpreters in 48 languages.

The International Directorate also coordinates and provides Auxiliary support to U.S. Coast Guard and Department of Defense (DoD) Geographic Combatant Commandsí international engagement and theater security cooperation and assistance activities and exercises.  This support is mainly in the form of Instructors and Interpreters provided around the world to the Army, Navy, Marines and Coast Guard.
