WITH THE VISIBILITY LESS THAN 1/2 NAUTICAL MILE, THE OPERATIONAL "E" EXCELLENCE TRAINING TURNED TO GPS & RADAR NAVIGATION. BRIAN MCARDLE (R) AT THE HELM & ANN REINICKE (L) WATCH THE GPS & RADAR WHILE NAVIGATING TOWARDS THE NORRIS BRIDGE OVER THE RAPPAHANNOCK RIVER.

THE NORRIS BRIDGE BARELY VISIBLE LESS THAN 1 NAUTICAL MILE AWAY. IN CONDITIONS OF REDUCED VISIBILITY GPS & RADAR BECOME EVEN MORE IMPORTANT NAVIGATION TOOLS.

AUX 27137 APPROACHES THE NORRIS BRIDGE. THE ABILITY TO NAVIGATE & CONDUCT SEARCHES DURING PERIODS OF REDUCED VISIBILITY & INCLEMENT WEATHER IS IMPORTANT FOR COAST GUARD & AUXILIARY OPERATIONS.

BRIAN MCARDLE (L) & ANN REINICKE (R) PREPARE FOR A SECTOR SEARCH. SECTOR SEARCHES ARE PRIMARILY USED WHEN SEARCHING FOR A PERSON IN THE WATER WHEN THERE IS A HIGH PROBABILITY THAT THE APPROXIMATE POSITION IS KNOWN.
