TEAM COAST GUARD MEMBERS (L TO R): WALLY DAWSON, WALLY JACHIMSKI, ED HIND, SAM CONGE, IAN DUNCAN, JERRY HAWLEY, BM2 CHRIS TONER, SN PATRICK HERRING, MK3 JIM RANKIN, & JOHN MILL. NOT PICTURED: FRANS KASTEEL, HOWARD MONTGOMERY, AMY  THOMAS, & JIM THOMAS.

“With Safe Boating Week close by, we took this opportunity to include First Friday among our other National Safe Boating Week activities,” said Wally Dawson, Flotilla 33 Commander. “Having a Coast Guard boat next to our booth really attracted a lot of attention. While kids were investigating the boat, we were able to talk to parents about boating safety.”

Flotilla 33 asked BMCS Matthew Welsh, Officer in Charge Coast Guard Station Milford Haven, to send a station boat and crew to work along with the Flotilla Public Affairs Booth. Welsh quickly committed, barring any emergency. “I want to provide support to the Auxiliary during community events to help get the safe boating message to the boating public."

“The highlight was the crew that accompanied the Coast Guard boat,” remarked Jerry Hawley, Flotilla 33 Public Affairs Officer. “The 3 Petty Officers from Station Milford Haven were excellent representatives of the United States Coast Guard. They answered all the questions put to them by children and adults. Their professionalism, knowledge and conduct showed a lot of people that Homeland Security is in good hands.”

The event was so well received that Station Milford Haven has already committed to the First Friday on 06 AUG in recognition of National Coast Guard Day.
