"IN MEMORY OF USCG AUXILIARISTS WHO HAVE SERVED WITH HONOR, RESPECT, AND DEVOTION TO DUTY"

  auxiliary_memorial_1

In 2005 after the death of a number of Division 3 members, Flotilla 37 member Jerry Woo had a vision of creating a Memorial to honor Coast Guard Auxiliary members who served in the Coast Guard Station Milford Haven area of responsibility.

Jerry embarked on the process of getting permission from the Coast Guard 5th District to create a memorial on the grounds of Station Milford Haven and soliciting donations to fund the ambitious project. After months of work Phase 1 of the Memorial Project was completed and the dedication took place over Memorial Day Weekend on Saturday 28 MAY 2005.

In 2007 Flotilla 3-10 member Wayne Ploger and Flotilla 33 member Frans Kasteel were appointed by Jim Thomas, then DCDR 03, to study & complete Phase II of the Memorial. This phase was completed in November 2008, adding bricks that can be engraved with the names of members who crossed the bar.

MEMORIAL MANAGEMENT

Flotilla 33 has agreed to manage the United States Coast Guard Memorial at Station Milford Haven. A Memorial Committee consisting of the Point of Contact (POC), Flotilla Commander and Vice Flotilla Commander will oversee the management of the memorial.

An engraved brick can now be purchased to be inserted in the Coast Guard Auxiliary Memorial at Station Milford Haven.

ELIGIBILITY:  A deceased Coast Guard Auxiliary member that honorably served in the Coast Guard Station Milford Haven Area of Responsibility (AOR). In addition, contributors to the Auxiliary Memorial prior to June 1, 2009 are eligible (see list of Benefactors & Sponsors below).

DESCRIPTION:  The Memorial consists of approximately a 10 foot square array of bricks placed in a “basket weave” configuration with a Memorial Stone as the centerpiece flanked by four marble benches along each side. Compass points engraved in larger stone work mark the four corners (see photo).

All engravings will be consistent with ˝ inch lettering.  Each brick will contain three lines:

  • Line 1 First name and initial or first initial and middle name
  • Line 2 Last name and suffix
  • Line 3 Year of Birth  Year of Death (four characters each)

COST: The cost of an engraved brick will be $50.00. This includes the cost of the brick, engraving, shipping, installation and a certificate for the purchaser.

PROCESS:  The application can be downloaded below, must be submitted with as much information as possible. Upon receipt of the application, it should be submitted to the appropriate Flotilla Commander for approval. The brick manufacturer will process an initial order of 25 bricks and then 10 bricks at a time going forward. Therefore processing of an individual inscribed brick will be done as soon as the minimum quantity can be ordered.

INSTALLATION:  Installation will be done upon receipt from the manufacturer and after notification of the party who submitted the Application.  Placement will begin at the center and work outwards and will be installed by date of application receipt. All engraved bricks will be placed so they can be read from one of two sides, depending upon placement in the herringbone pattern. The engraved bricks will replace the already installed bricks.
