PRESS RELEASE

What is a Northern Neck resident doing in Barbados working with members of the military from 17 different countries?  Brian McArdle, Flotilla Commander of Flotilla 33 in Kilmarnock and Director of International Affairs for the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary recently returned from Barbados where he participated in Tradewinds 2012.

“TradeWinds is a joint, combined and interagency regional exercise focusing on Combating Transnational Organized Crime and Humanitarian Assistance/Disaster Response,” commented McArdle.  “Another objective is to build common operations between the US, Partner Nations, regional organizations and their capability to support regional security objectives.  Seventeen partner nations from around the Caribbean participated in the exercise.”

McArdle was responsible for 24 Auxiliary members participating in the exercise and as an Incident Command System Instructor.  “The whole idea of the exercise is to have many countries working on the same system and developing communications among each other,” said McArdle.  “Not only does it create partnerships and partnerships among neighboring countries, but it helps with security of the United States".
