AUX 27137 TOWS DISABLED POWER BOAT WITH 2 PERSONS ABOARD FROM THE RAPPAHANNOCK RIVER IN ADVANCE OF SEVERE THUNDER STORMS ON 04JUL11

(L TO R) AMY THOMAS, BRIAN MCARDLE, & JOHN HOEKSTRA ABOARD AUX 27137 TAKE A DISABLED POWER BOAT IN TOW  ON THE RAPPAHANNOCK RIVER.

WITH SEVERE THUNDERSTORS APPROACHING THE CREW OF AUX 27137 DECIDED TO HEAD FOR HOPE PIER. BUT EN ROUTE AUX 27137 CAME UPON A DISABLED POWER BOAT IN THE RAPPAHANNOCK RIVER WITH 2 PERSONS ONBOARD 2-MILES WEST OF THE NORRIS BRIDGE.

STATION MILFORD WAS QUICKLY NOTIFIED AND THE OFFICER OF THE DAY CHECKED THE LOCAL WEATHER RADAR, THEN REQUESTED WE REMOVE THE BOATERS FROM THE RIVER AS QUICK AS POSSIBLE.

WITH LIGHTENING ROLLING IN BEHIND US THE DISABLED WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL MARINA. A CALL WAS MADE TO FLOTILLA 33 MEMBER FRANS KASTEEL TO PROVIDE A RIDE TO THE PUBLIC RAMP WHERE THEIR TRUCK & TRAILER WAS LOCATED.

THANKS TO FRANS FOR COMPLETING THE SAR CASE BEGAN BY AUX 27137. A SUCCESSFUL MISSION THAT REMOVED 2 BOATERS FROM HARMS WAY.
